Millefiori Polymer Clay Pen with Deb and Rich Hall-Reppen

Sunday, April 28, 2024 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Cost: $100

In this class we will use polymer clay (eg. Sculpey, Primo, etc.) and polymer clay designs (canes) to make a pen or two. We will condition the polymer clay and then fit it to the pen blank. Once our canvas is set, we will apply small slices of the canes to make our design. Some popular designs include flowers, butterflies, angels / fairies and other designs like hearts, clubs, and plants. Once our designs are applied, we bake the pen for 30 minutes and then take it to the lathe for sanding and final finishing. If we have time, we will show some other applications combining wood and polymer clay. We will provide all of the materials and a resource list where you can find the items we use in the class.

Deb and Rich Hall-Reppen have demonstrated the millefiori polymer clay pen and accents on wood to the Chicago area woodturning and woodworking clubs. They use polymer clay and the canes in their designs making pens, kitchen tool handles, plates, boxes and just about anything they make on the lathe that will fit into their oven. Deb and Rich are members of the Association of American Woodturners, the Chicago Woodturners, the Windy City Woodturners, the Badger Woodturners and the Fox Valley Woodworkers.

This is a one day workshop, beginning at 9:00 am and ending at around 4:00 pm. The workshop will be held at Intersections Wood Collaborative at 299 10th Street E., Owen Sound.

Familiarity with lathes would be an asset, but not required.

Materials fee of $50 payable to the instructor.
